The manuscript presents Mary Vickers as a devoted Methodist and records her spiritual reflections during the later stages of her life.

Includes notes compiled by Mary Randall Vickers on her birth, marriage to Samuel Philipps in 1786, birth and death of Robert Howell, excerpts from the register of Leeds confirming the birth of Mary Randall Vickers on 11 February 1757 and Robert Howell Philipps on 14 February 1788 and baptism of Robert Howell Philipps on 29 February 1808, Wesleyan Methodist Class Tickets issued to Mary Randall Vickers in March 1820 and June 1826, and a handwritten notebook containing family records, personal reflections, and notes relating to Mary Randall Vickers and her family. The pages of the handwritten notebook record key family events including her marriage to Samuel Philipps in 1786, the births and baptisms of her children (Benjamin Randall Vickers, Edward Randall Vickers, William Randall Vickers), the death of Samuel Philipps in 1789, her marriage to Joseph Vickers in 1797. The notebook also includes extracts copied from parish registers in Leeds, religious reflections, correspondence fragments, household recipes including for Bark Bitters, and notes on finances. The papers contain two Wesleyan Methodist Class Tickets issued to Mary Randall Vickers in March 1820 and June 1826, which were issued quarterly to Methodist societies as confirmation of their continued participation and good standing within the congregation. The ticket dated March 1820 includes a biblical verse from Matthew 6:6 and both would have been presented when attending Methodist meetings. The papers were originally held in a red purse.
