Our Story: A Heritage of Innovation and Excellence

Mission & Vision

The Mary Randall Vickers Archive collects, preserves and promotes materials documenting the remarkable life of Mary Randall Vickers (1757–1826), her family and the enterprises she and her descendants have built over generations — particularly Vickers Oils (est. 1828). The Archive's purpose is to preserve the Vickers story, to ground the family and its businesses in a shared sense of history, and to celebrate, inspire and connect employees, customers, future generations and the wider public. The archive will do so by developing, conserving and interpreting its collections to the highest professional standards.

Values

Integrity: The Archive will be open and transparent about its collections, honest about what it can and cannot do, and rigorous in its objectivity when cataloguing and interpreting material. The Archive recognises that the Vickers story is not just the story of one family, but a 'business of families' and is committed to preserving and celebrating that wider history.

Legacy: The Archive is committed to ensuring that the Vickers story benefits not just the business and its customers, but the wider community and that it endures for future generations. The Archive will welcome all visitors in person, and make as much of its collection as possible available online.

Trust: Collections will be developed, conserved and safeguarded to the highest professional standards. The Archive aims to support research across business history, religion, textiles, lubricants and Leeds.
